Apple's svelte new Magic Mouse.

Apple has ditched the little roller ball on its Mighty Mouse in favor of an entirely new design where the entire top surface responds to touch. The new Magic Mouse, as it’s now called, is a svelte engineering wonder.

Apple says it’s the first Multi-Touch mouse in the world. Like the trackpads on MacBooks and the touch screen surface of the iPhone and iPod touch, the Magic Mouse lets users navigate using intuitive finger gestures.

Magic Mouse can be set to act as a single or multi-button mouse. Using gestures, users can scroll through long documents, pan across large images or swipe to move forward or backward through a collection of web pages or photos. Magic Mouse works for left or right handed users and multi-button or gesture commands can be configured from within System Preferences in Mac OS X 10.5.8 or later.

Magic Mouse is Bluetooth wireless, and to extend battery performance, Apple says its Magic Mouse includes an advanced power management system that works with Mac OS X to automatically switch to low power modes during periods of inactivity.

Magic Mouse comes standard with the new iMac [2] and will be available as a Mac accessory for $69.
